Participation and Commitment:

Pop Warner football season runs from August 1st until December 31st.

Year Round Cheer will run from January 1st until July 31st.Participation is encouraged but not required to participate in the football season.

While participating in the Warriors Cheer Program all participants are expected to:

  • Parents of participants must commit to 2 hours of volunteer time per child enrolled.

Year Round Cheer:

All girls participating in year round cheer can expect to learn a variety of cheer, dance and tumbling skills to prepare them for the upcoming season.

For the first few weeks of  cheer practices we will be working as one big group to refresh cheerleading skills and work building new friendships as well as strengthening old ones.

During this time, we will continue practice at the Rec. Center on Thursdays from 7 until 8.

Around the beginning of May, we will take practice outdoors for two days a week, 1 ½ hours per day with the location and time still to be determined. This will continue until the end of the year round season on July 31st.

Once outdoors, girls will be split into three teams – Tiny Mites, Mitey Mites (Both Non-Competitive) and Jr. Peewee (Competitive). All teams will perform at the local competition in June. Details will be announced as they are received. We will need to do a fundraiser drive for year round competition outfits.

Both Tiny Mites and Mitey Mite teams will consist of cheerleaders ages 4-9 who will focus mainly on their exhibition performance routines along with continuing to tighten cheer skills along with learning cheers and chants.

Jr. Peewees (Competitive) will consist of cheerleaders ages 9 through 11 who will focus mainly on executing their competition routine along with continuing to strengthen, sharpen and advance their cheer skills.

We are currently in the process of setting up a tumbling and possible dance class for the Warrior cheerleaders.

Washtenaw Warriors Cheerleader Rules 2009-2010

These rules are to be followed by all cheerleaders at all times!

  1. Practice time is team time. Once you are here, you are to remain on the field/floor with the team until practice is over. You are expected to participate in all practice activities.
  1. Water and bathroom breaks are designated. There are no exceptions besides extreme emergencies. You should use the bathroom before practice.
  1. When you hear the whistle, you will have 8 counts to get prepared in your place in line.
  1. Pay attention and be serious when we are practicing. If you goof around, you could cause yourself or someone else to get hurt. Anyone caught goofing around and not paying attention during practice will sit out.
  1. When you are performing, your motions are supposed to be tight, sharp and with the team. Your voice when cheering should be loud enough to be heard. Mistakes will not be punished but lack of effort or refusal to participate will not be tolerated.
  1. Unless you are helping or performing a stunt, your hands should not be on anyone else. Do NOT pick on, insult, spread rumors about or leave out other team mates. Treat everyone as you would like to be treated. We are all one as a team.
  1. Pay attention, listen anddo not talk while coaches are talking. Usually, when we are talking, it is important information that you need to hear.
  1. Your participation and behavior not only reflects on you but more on your team mates and coaches. Everyone is here to either teach or learn cheerleading. We want this to be fun and exciting too but our main focus during these 2 hours is cheerleading. There will be punishments for those who choose not to pay attention and follow the rules. There will also be rewards not only to individuals but also to the team with good behavior and accomplishments. How you choose to spend practice time is always your choice.
  1. Helpers and demonstrators will be rotated. Everyone will have multiple chances to be a leader and helper throughout the season. In order to come to the front and demonstrate for the team, you must first know exactly what you are doing, how to properly execute it and have been participating and following the rules. In order to help out with other things, you must participate and behave during practice.
  1. No gum, candy or snacks until the end of practice. You should eat and use the bathroom before practice begins.
  1. If you are late and we are warming up or have already warmed up, please have a seat until we are finished. Those who are late will warm up as a group with a helper.
  1. Make sure that you bring your folders to practice everyday. We will have lots of handouts and activities each week that you should be taking home and working on. Also, if you have been or are going to be absent, you can get the lessons that you missed without falling behind.
  1. During practice, we will be following our practice schedule as closely as possible. If you have a cheer or an idea that you would like to present to the coaches, it must be done during free time, before or after practice.

Consequences

  1. Warning for personal and team interruptions and/or non-participation.
  2. Run – 1 to 3 laps depending on the severity of the situation.
  3. Run 3 laps
  4. Individuals will be asked to sit out of practice. As a team, cheerleaders will run.
  5. Individuals will receive a warning note home and will not participate in weekly activities or games. As a team, all cheerleaders will run the ultimate cheer drill and all fun activities for the week will be cancelled.
